About Chi Epsilon

xe-letters-only

Chi Epsilon is the only recognized national honor society for civil engineers and was founded to recognize and honor both civil engineering students and professionals. The first chapter was founded in 1922 at the University of Illinois; currently, there are 143 chapters and over 125,000 members!

The Virginia Tech Chapter of Chi Epsilon was founded in 1941 as the 18th chapter. We have inducted over 2,500 members in our chapter alone.

Student members are invited to join Chi Epsilon during the first month of each semester based on their scholarship and academic performance. Undergraduates who are in the top third of their junior or senior class and graduate students who are in the top half of their respective class will receive invitations to become members. All students in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and the Myers-Lawson School of Construction who meet these requirements will be invited to join Chi Epsilon.

Our chapter plans and hosts several events throughout the school year:

  • Weekly tutoring sessions in all areas of CEE
  • Annual CEE Research Day (every spring)
  • Local educational outreach at elementary schools

Our weekly tutoring sessions are expected to begin in early to mid-October for the Fall 2021 semester and will take place both in-person in Patton Hall and virtually via Zoom as requested by students. The CEE department will provide information about how to sign up for these sessions in weekly emails starting in early October. Visit our Tutoring Page for more information.
